Visiting with Hurts So Good Tattoo

On one of the state roads running north to south between Daytona Beach and Kissimmee FL, you’ll find the town of Altamonte Springs. It is an eclectic mix of old and modern Florida, close to the action in Orlando, but just far enough away to have a steady sense of calm. This is also where you will find a small family-owned street-style tattoo shop called Hurts So Good Tattoo. Owned by husband and wife team Mean Mike and Stacie Becker since 2009, HSG has earned a solid reputation as a clean, welcoming and reliable shop for tattoo newbies and collectors alike. Traveling artists are welcomed here and HSG hosts artist Marvin Vigil one week per month when he comes down from GA.

I guested with the HSG family for the first time in the winter of 2018 and fell in love with the place. Even between appointments, no one in the shop is idle. Art projects of one sort of another are always in process close by, to be fetched out and tended to until the next client arrives. I was even able to share some scratchboard materials and techniques with Stacie during my visit and watch her take off with it to create a gorgeous portrait of a wolf.

Lately Stacie has been doing work with breast cancer survivors, tattooing over scars and/or implants to create a new reflection for the wearers. It is a powerful form of transformation she facilitates with this work and her reputation as a trusted and competent artist for it is continuing to grow.

If you are looking for a friendly, quality and drama-free shop to start your next tattoo project, give HSG a call or fill out their contact form on their website. You will be treated to an experience above and beyond. I very much look forward to my next opportunity to work with these fantastic people and talented artists. I always come away inspired to do better, be better and earn that next guest spot with them.
